Private Services for Angelo Athanasiou Mathes, 70 of Thomasville will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Greek Orthodox Church in Tallahassee. A private interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Mathes passed away February 8, 2021 at his residence. Born February 1, 1951 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Tom G. Mathes and Chriso K. Mathes. He graduated from the University of Louisville, KY with a masters in social work and an undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Tallahassee, and he loved the Lord and his family. He was the previous owner of the Plaza Restaurant and Three Oaks Wine & Spirits. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and loved Alabama Football. He also taught kids T-ball and basketball; was the MVP of the Thomasville High School Basketball team and was a pole vaulter. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Dennis Maggitas, Tommy Maggitas and wife Connie, Mary Maggitas and Johnny Maggitas all of Thomasville; brother, George Mathes and wife Kathy of Thomasville; sister, Georgia Mathes Wainer and husband Max of Alpharetta; great-nephew, Charles Maggitas of Thomasville; great-niece, Christina Maggitas of Thomasville; Nephews, Alex Wainer of Decatur, Tommy Mathes and wife Maria of Albany and Andy Mathes and wife, Christanthi of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Connie Maggitas. A viewing will be held for friends and family at the funeral home from 10-5 on Thursday, February 11th, 2021.
