Deuel C. (Mac) Mcelreath

Services for Deuel C. (Mac) McElreath, Jr, 79 of Thomasville will be held at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at First Newark Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Steve Brooks, Dr. Jimmy Clanton and Rev. James Guthrie will officiate. Mr. McElreath passed away December 8, 2014 at his residence. Born January 7, 1935 in Newnan, he was the son of the late Deuel C. McElreath, Sr and Lucy Brown McElreath. He was married to Deborah Clark McElreath on June 26, 1980 who survives. Mr. McElreath graduated from Bay High School in Panama City, FL. After graduation he attended Southern Technical Institute in Chamblee where he earned his degree in electrical engineering. He started his career at McLean Engineering in Moultrie and then worked for City of Thomasville Utilities for 30 faithful years as chief electrical engineer. After retirement Deb & he traveled and volunteered at several state parks thru out Georgia & Florida, and the National Park Service. He worked for the Corp of Engineers serving as park attendant and as a National Park Ranger in the Blue Ridge Parkway serving in Mabry Mill 2 years, Humpback Rock 4 years and Point Park in Chattanooga, TN 1 year. They then worked for Bennett Transport traveling coast to coast. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, he was a master craftsman, enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, Lazy Lynn’s Bluegrass and was an inventor with several patents. He has an article (bed key) of his woodworking on display at the Smithsonian Institute. Above all, Mac was a devoted family man. He is also survived by his children, Deuel C. McElreath, III (Chris) and wife Mary Sue, Greg McElreath and wife Gwyn, Patrick McElreath and wife Becky, David Outler and wife Christine and Charmon Henderson and husband Terry; grandchildren, Deuel C. McElreath, IV(DC), Jennifer Shiver (Taylor), Rachel McElreath, Julia McElreath, Matthew McElreath (Kelli), Ryan McElreath (Lauren), Adriane Webb (Josh), Alisha Barnes, Haylee Hobbs (David), Chase Lewis, Forrest McElreath, Hunter McElreath, James Penland, Whitnie Hall (Josh), Sarah Katie Croft, and Wayne & Mike Henderson; great grandchildren, Anna Leigh Shiver, Annabelle Sage Webb, Cassidy Anne Webb, Melody Jane Hobbs, Aiden Hall, Layla Grace Deese; brother, Donald J. McElreath, and his faithful beloved dog, J.R. He was preceded in death by brother, Lewis Barry McElreath and great-granddaughter, Harmony Caroline Hobbs. The family would like to thank Dr. Marshall Dunaway and his staff for 35 years of great care and Bethany Hospice for their great care of Mr. McElreath and most especially Kim, Miranda, Chaplain James and the team.
