Georgia Lois Shiver
Services for long-time Thomasville, Ga. resident, Georgia Lois Shiver, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at First Baptist Church Chapel. The Reverends Dr. Dan Spencer and Dr. Milton Gardner will lead the ceremony. Mrs. Shiver passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 22. Born October 9, 1917 in Wrightsville, Ga., she married Grayson Heyman Shiver in 1952 and they moved to Thomasville in 1953. Mr. Shiver preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Shiver was a long-time employee of Neel's Department Store. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Her sweet smile and pleasing manner made her a favorite of her customers during the many years she worked in downtown Thomasville. She was an active member of First Baptist Church until recent years when health kept her confined at home. She also was a member of the Thomasville Garden Club, an Archbold Hospital Auxiliary member, and a long-time volunteer for the hospital. Mrs. Shiver?s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She delighted in preparing meals, celebrating family occasions, and in everyday visiting. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a keen sense of humor that was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Shiver is survived by her children Annette D. Floyd of Thomasville; Janette W. Hodges and husband Jerry W. Hodges of Marietta, Ga.; and Allen L. Shiver and wife Robin R. Shiver of Thomasville; and stepchildren Grayson Shiver, Jr. of Tennessee; and Karen Brown of Washington. Grandchildren are: Greg N. Hodges, Amanda L. Johnson and husband Chris Johnson of Marietta, Ga.; Allison Schultz-Stead and Doug Stead of Celina, Texas; Bryan Floyd and Jason Floyd of Dallas, Texas; Robert and wife Lindsay S. Shiver of Thomasville; and Jennifer Brooke Shiver, Thomasville. Great grandchildren are: Janie, Kendall, Caroline, and Gracie Johnson, all of Marietta; Kaylyn and Lauren Schultz of Celina; Jackson and Dyllan Floyd of Frisco; and Riley Floyd of Dallas. Also surviving is Mrs. Shiver?s sister Irene Strickland of Albany, Ga. Mrs. Shiver was preceded in death by her son-in-law Jerry M. Floyd Annette?s husband.
