Services for James Hunter Johntson are at 6:00PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at his residence at 310 Habersham Dr., Thomasville, GA 229-228-4682. Mr. Johnston died April 6, 2006. On July 8, 1933 he was born and raised in New York City, he was the son of Helena and Hunter Johnston. Jimmy served as a Specialist Fourth Class in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent 29 years as an employee of the New York City Transit System. Even though he was a native New Yorker for the 1st third of his life, he became a true Georgian in his later years in the Rose City of Thomasville. A quiet man who kept to himself, you could see him mowing his lawn or might run into him at the supermarket. A lover and hater of golf in his later years, he could leave the game behind but thought the game was a good challenge for him, plus he enjoyed it. One of his true and lasting hobbies was firearms. What started as a minor weekend hobby turned into a major undertaking. He not only had a nice collection of purchased firearms, but also became pretty good at making them and loading his own ammo. His other pastimes included, cooking, tinkering with mechanical things, messing around with his computer, visiting Prestige Infiniti and watching Judge Judy. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving sisters, Liz and Helena and her husband Lionel; daughter, Jimyce, son Hunter and his son Hasson; and wife Gale; stepson, Douglas and wife Mayra and their children, Jayson, Ivy, Christian and Enes; nieces, Allison and Hillary and nephews Willard ?Chipper? and Mark. He also leaves behind a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ivy the mother of Douglas. Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks for your concern and thoughtfulness. Memorials/donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA. 31792.
