Mozelle Lyon Smith

February 15, 1927 — October 31, 2018

Mozelle was born in Ivanhoe, Virginia in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains “where the sun comes up about ten in the morning and the sun goes down about three in the day". She was born on February 15, 1927 the third born of five children to William Furron Lyon and Ora Edwards Lyon. Furron was a World War 1 veteran and a coal miner. Her Mother preceded her in death after the birth of her last child. After the death of her first husband (Fred Caviness) Mozelle moved to Thomasville, Georgia with her firstborn child, Nelson L. Caviness. After moving to Thomasville (which was as far south as the train went at that time) Mozelle met and married the love of her life, Eddie W. Smith (Smitty). He went Home to be with his Lord and Saviour in January 2017. They were married for 65 years. Mozelle worked at Warner's as a seamstress for many years. She obtained her LPN nursing degree in her 40's after her last child, Sheila, started school. Mozelle worked as a LPN in the emergency department of Archbold Hospital for 18 years. Upon her retirement she worked as a volunteer at Archbold Hospital as a Pink Lady for many years. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and her church. She loved going to church, doing her crafts, working in her yard, giving to other people, and traveling with her husband " up home" to Virginia and on numerous bus trips with Geri-Gadder tours of Bainbridge. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress making all of her daughters' dresses when they were young. Mozelle passed away on October 31, 2018 at her residence. She is is survived by three of her four children, Nelson Caviness (Glenda), Sheryl Golden (Glenn), Sheila Knapp (Taylor), and a daughter-in-law Rita Boyette Smith. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Scott Chastain (Lindsay), Derek Chastain (Julie), Lindsay Milam (Mike), Kelley· Potts (Christopher), Cody and Justin Knapp, and Eddie Caviness. Great grandchildren: Taylor and Grayson Chastain, Haley and Will Chastain, Reed and Will Milam, Christopher, Anna Wilder, and Winnie Potts, and Fitz Caviness. She was preceded in death by her husband "Smitty" , her parents, sister Pauline Lyon Henley, brothers, William Steven Lyon (World War 11 veteran on the beaches of Normandy), Trenton Randoph Lyon (Korean War Killed in Action ), John Bruce Lyon (Air Force Veteran) and loving son, Marcus Eddie Smith. We would like to thank her caregivers from Georgia Living at Home of Woodleaf, Bethany Hospice, Camellia Gardens of Life Care staff and Dr. Rick Fenlon for all of the love and care they gave Mama.
