Olive L. Sherman

October 26, 1922 — February 13, 2022

Olive Lorraine Sherman, 99 of Thomasville, Ga passed away on February 13th, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reyam and son Scott. “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen”- Leonardo da Vinci. After growing up in South Bend, Indiana Lorraine entered WW2 as a pilot with the Army Air Corp. As the war ended, she relocated with her husband to New Orleans where she resided for over 50 years. Lorraine loved life, she loved to laugh, she loved the arts, and she loved her pets. But it was her love of painting and art that was beyond exceptional. She had the eye for light. She could hear the music. “I must have flowers, always, and always.”- Claude Monet. Lorraine continued her service to her country when in 2016 she received the Congressional Medal of Honor and in 2019 proudly leading as Grand Marshall of the Thomasville Veterans Day parade. She is survived by her sons Michael and Kris. Grandchildren Darin, Brent, and Kea along with 4 Great Grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery 5190 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana on May 21st at 11 am. Reception (party) to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Thomasville Humane Society. “If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint”- Edward Hopper.
