Rev. Dr. Weyman Reives Cleveland
Services for Rev. Dr. Weyman Reives Cleveland, 87, of Thomasville, Ga., are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Oakview Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. in Camilla. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor will officiate. Dr. Cleveland died July 11 in Savannah after a short illness. Born May 23, 1922 in Camilla, he was the son of the late Paul Reives and Russell Lasseter Cleveland. On June 20, 1945 in Climax, Ga., he married Christine Trulock Cleveland who preceded him in death on June 15, 2001. Dr. Cleveland was a retired United Methodist Minister in the South Georgia Conference. He was a graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. He was a member of the Rotary Club and was a Will Watt Fellow. He was the first director of South Georgia Conference United Methodist Church Foundation and was also chairman of the Board of Pensions for the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served Methodist Churches in Faceville, Savannah Beach, Folkston, Eastman, Thomasville, Columbus, Savannah and Moultrie. Survivors include children: Chris Salter of Newnan Ga., Mary Corbitt Walter of Montgomery, Ala., Peggy Whitley of Salisbury, N.C. and Paul Reives Cleveland Judy of Savannah; Grandchildren: Wayne Salter Ashley, Stephanie Cook Geoff, Melanie Ikerman Shane, Abby Hedgecock Jeff, Rebecca Tucker Artie, Laura Cleveland and Christina Glendye Trey. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Millard C. Cleveland. Memorial contributions may be made to Thomasville's First United Methodist Church, 425 N.
