Services for Richard Toombs Sanders, 84, of Thomasville, are at 3p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2009 at First Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner, Rev. Dan Spencer and Rev. Dr. Tom Jacobs will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery on 16th Street. Pallbearers are Fireman Rick Sanders, John Adam Wise, Tommy Benton, Tim Connell, Greg Owens, Ronnie Smith and Jason Rinker. Honorary Pallbearers are retired Fireman W T McKenzie, Kenneth Asbell, I D Golden, Joe Cole, Clay Phillips, Larry Griffin, Zeke Johnson, Henry Clay, Dorsey Shelley, Bonnie Lamb, Emmett Odum, Ronald Roberts, James Culp, Earl Harris, Wayne Lewis, Wyatt Revell, Jack Gibbs, Bud Perry and David Brown. Mr. Sanders died October 16 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1925, in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Ernest R. and Laura Irene McKelvin Sanders. On Aug. 28, 1943, in Thomasville, he married Frances Jeanette Moncrief Sanders, who preceded him in death on June 17, 2009. Mr. Sanders retired as a Fireman from the city of Thomasville, after 39 years of service. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Ondria Sanders of Thomasville; daughter, Frances Ponder of Rockmart; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jim Roddenberry of Thomasville; grandchildren, Amy Hooper and husband, Jerome of Cedartown, Sam Ponder of Cedar Key, Fla., Ricky Sanders and wife, Rebecca of Thomasville, LeAnn Jackson and husband, Stuart of Thomasville, Heather Maria Roddenberry of Thomasville; great-grandchildren, Ann Murray Jackson of Thomasville, Georgia Kathleen Jackson of Thomasville, Jake and Ben Sanders of Thomasville, Raina, Finley and Skylar Hooper of Cedartown and Bailey Grace Freeman of Gulf Port, Miss.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Eugene and Carolyn Sanders of Moultrie and J.L. and Dorothy Sanders of Thomasville; sisters, Stella Sanders Bennett of Branford, Fla. and Eva Sanders Jenkins of Tallahassee, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Love of Tallahassee, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, W.A. Sanders, James Earl Sanders, Ernest Sanders, Ralph F. Sanders and Donald Sanders.
