Funeral services for LCDR Robert (Robbie) Caldwell, III, 49, were held at 3:00PM, Friday, February 12, 2016 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bob Dixon and Rev. Lee Waller will officiate. Mr. Caldwell passed away on February 7, 2016 in Atlanta. Born July 24, 1966 in Thomasville, he was the son of Terry Dupriest and the late Robert Caldwell, Jr. He is married to Barbara Ann Caldwell, who survives. Robbie was a 1984 graduate of Thomasville High School and a 1988 graduate of Valdosta State University. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in September 1989. Robbie served as a Lt. Commander in Navy Intelligence for 16 years, having served in many places: London, England, Bahrain, Bosnia, Japan, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., US Central Command in Tampa, Florida and several military bases around the country. He medically retired in 2005 after having a distinguished career serving his country. Robert was a wonderful and loving husband, son, father, brother and friend. He was an avid runner from the age of 12, having run his first Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta at the age of 14. He ran in many local races during his young life and was especially fond of the Rose City Run, which he continued to run in as an adult as long as possible and as his military career allowed him to be home. He loved Thomasville and the state of Georgia and was where he always considered home. He loved being with his close-knit family here. His favorite must-do visits when home were to the Pool Room for a hot dog and George and Louie’s and Mom and Dad’s Restaurant. Robbie grew up as a member of Dawson St. Baptist Church of Thomasville and as a teenager became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomasville, where he participated in many youth activities and mission trips. Survivors include wife and partner of 7 years, Barbara Caldwell; mother and step-father Terry and David Dupriest; children Kristiana, Malcolm and Jackson Caldwell of Peoria, Arizona; step-daughter Paige Clark of Phoenix; sisters Allison Caldwell, Seymour (Mark) of Rome, Georgia, Laura Caldwell Gentle (Mike) of Jefferson, Georgia; aunts and uncles Vicki and Jerry Reagan, Cindy and Jeffery Hurst all of Thomasville; uncle Mike McLeod of Mexico Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by grandparents Robert and Frances Caldwell, Marcelle and Archie McLeod all of Thomasville. Donations may be made to www.ucdavisstemcell.org .
