Roy Campbell of Thomasville passed away on Saturday September 9, 2023 at Southern Pines at the age of 93.
Roy lived a full life, motivated always by his devoted wife of 72 years, Dot Campbell. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 2, 1929 and lived there until he left home to attend the University of Alabama, where he met the love of his life, Dot. They were married August 24, 1951. The following year, he graduated and they traveled around the country while he served as a major in the Air Force, and proudly devoting 18 years to the Air Force Reserve. He made his living in the car business, eventually buying his own automobile business, Roy Campbell Chevrolet, where he served as president for 33 years. He was so proud of his beloved city of Thomasville, serving as a city councilor for 20 years and as mayor during that time. His home walls are filled with rewards, certificates and accolades of all his accomplishments. He was especially proud of being awarded “Time Magazine Quality Dealer” in 1988 and Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year” in 2001. He is loved and will be missed by his wife, Dot Campbell, daughters, Sharon (Lewis) Fiskus, Leesa (Bill) Bone and Pam Sewell (Anthony), 3 grandchildren, Samantha (Brad) Gimble, Warren (Janell) Fiskus and Connor Sewell and 2 great grandchildren, Sierra and Asher.
Due to his immediate family going through illness and wanting safety for friends and family, a private graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in Laurel Hill Cemetery on LA Street.
