Services for Samuel Wayman Phelps will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2019, with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Milford Stanley will officiate, and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Phelps died on October 14th, 2019 at his residence in Thomasville. Born February 13th, 1923, in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Samuel Dewey and Rosa Brinson Phelps. On August 30th, 1947, he married the late Vesta Phelps. Mr. Phelps proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He participated in an Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC to visit the World War II monument in 2013. After working for many years as an auto mechanic at Faulk Chevrolet, he opened Phelps Garage, where he worked until he retired. During retirement, he followed his passion for beekeeping, frequently conducting educational talks at local nursing homes and also helping other people get started in the hobby. Survivors include sons Kenneth Wayman Phelps of Thomasville and Samuel Alan Phelps of Morrison, TN; daughters Katherine Phelps Bryant of Jacksonville, FL and Beverly Phelps Herring of Lilburn, GA; sister Mozell Williams; grandchildren Patrick Phelps, Marc Phelps, Kimberly Exum and Brian Bryant; 6 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings Dewey Phelps, Clifford Phelps, Ruth Billingsley, and Vernal Hudson. Family and friends are invited to visit his online memorial tribute page at
