Agnes Ellis

Graveside services for Agnes Ellis, 89, of Thomasville, Georgia will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Tennesee St. Agnes was born on June 8, 1926 in Brewton Georgia. She was the youngest of four children and the only girl. Her father was the local country doctor and mother was a schoolteacher. The family was active in the small community and could be found at Brewton Baptist Church every Sunday. Agnes received her bachelor's degree from Georgia State College for Women. Shortly after graduation, she married her husband, Arnold (Bob) Ellis, and they raised two children. For many years she was a member of the Dawson Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the women's Circle groups.
Agnes worked as an office manager and bookkeeper with the City of Thomasville, Water & Light department, for 33 years. She and Arnold retired to a home in the country, just outside of Cairo Ga. They called it "3 & Plum" because it was "3 miles out of town and plum in the woods". They also enjoyed boating and traveling the United States in their RV. In her younger years Agnes enjoyed playing sports including archery and volleyball and once retired was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and tennis spectator. Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs C. G. Moye; her husband, Arnold Robert Ellis; her brothers, Cecil Moye, Victor Moye, and Duggan Moye. She is survived by her son, Guy Ellis (Marianne); daughter, Tamlyn Ellis (Bennie Franks); grandchildren: Chris Ellis (Amanda), Karen McNamara, great grandchildren; Topher Ellis, Liam Ellis, and Piper Ellis.
