On Monday, December 2, Frank J. Owens, passed away peacefully at age 80 at his Boston home. Mr. Owens was born on December 17, 1938 in Pavo, GA to Jim and Ola Owens. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On January 16, 1961, he married Margaret Faye Suber, who survives. Mr. Owens worked for Flowers Baking Company for 37 years and retired as assistant plant engineer in 1997. In his earlier years, he was an avid coon hunter and raised championship dogs, making many friends along the way. In recent years, he developed a great passion for dirt track racing and spent many hours trackside. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, it was with wisdom. He is survived by his two sons, Tony (Robin) and Randy (Leslie), all of Boston; grandchildren Alan (Lynn) of Thomasville, Cody of Sacramento, CA, Adam (Ivey) of Coolidge, and Maggie of Valdosta; great grandchildren Melissa and Zachary of Thomasville, Claire of Lakeland, FL, and Aspyn of Coolidge and granddaughter-in-law Jackie Smith of Lakeland. He is also survived by sister Marjorie Ricks of Quitman; brothers, Charles Owens of Boston, Pete Owens of Thomasville and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Winona, Marion, and Eunice, and brother JT. He was also preceded in death by his youngest son, Chris. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and great nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his racing buddies. Visitation will be Thursday, 5-7 pm at Allen and Allen. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with burial in Salem Cemetery.
