Services for Herbert Hampton Blow, 91, of Thomasville are at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Dawson Street Baptist Church where he was a member for over 50 years, where he served faithfully. The Rev. Lee Waller will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born November 15, 1918 in Dooley Co., GA he was the son of the late Hampton and Emma Blow. On June 25, 1947 in Thomasville he married Catherine Kitty Long Blow who survives. He was a teletype writer operator at the Postal Telegraph in Thomasville. He then served in the US Army during World War II, where he was in the battle at Ardennes and received a Purple Heart as the result of combat injuries. Upon returning from the Army, he worked at the VA Hospital as a teletype operator. He then went to work as a letter carrier with the US Post Office. Upon retirement from the Post Office, he worked for the Thomasville Times Enterprise delivering newspaper from his motorcycle and then later worked the newspaper vending racks for approximately 20 years. During that time, he formed Big B Fence Company, which he operated for many years. He was a member of VFW and enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, working in his gardens and his green house. He is survived by his children, Gloria Jean and Carroll Cassada of Florida, Stanley H. and Kathie Blow of Douglas, Ga., Marilyn D. and Steve Huffman of Crawfordville, Fl, Barry W. Blow and his good friend, Melanie Bauer of Thomasville, Ga., Jennifer D. and Keith King of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law, Lucile and Lester Raider of Jacksonville, FL, brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Ruth Blow of Lincoln, Neb., and sister Sarah Blow Cloaten of Centralia, Washington. 10 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ethel Blow of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Blow. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7on Monday evening at the funeral home. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
