Benjamin D. Joyner

January 6, 1922 — June 23, 2017

Benjamin D. Joyner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend went to be with our Lord June 23, 2017. Born January 6, 1922 in Wilson, North Carolina, known as Ben by many, walked among us for 95 years. His kind gentle caring love for all people left an everlasting memory for all that knew him. He will be missed but never forgotten. He was the son of Elmer and Mammie Joyner and was 1 of 8 siblings. Ben worked for Balfour Lumber and has been retired for 30 years. He grew up in North Carolina with his family. He began working at a very early age to help support his family. In 1943, he met the love of his life Nadine (Hill) Joyner and they wed and settled in North Carolina. In 1974 the family relocated to Thomasville, Ga., and spent the next 38 years there. In 2012, he made his last move to Texas, to be with family. He was a quiet, gentle man loved by many. He loved his family beyond words and was proud to talk about his age, years married and grandbabies to anyone who would listen. He was a Christian man who loved the Lord. He will be missed by our family immensely, but we know he is in a better place. He was preceded in death by his son, Ben Jr; father, Elmer, mother, Mammie, brother, Tom and sisters, Helen and Ruby. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Nadine; daughter, Susan Joyner Brown and husband Andy; grandchildren, Casey Brown Tunning and husband David, Drew Brown and wife Jamie; great grandchildren, Devon, Tyler, Cody, Austin, Blaine, Andrew and Brantley; brother, Bud and wife Polly; sisters, Mildred Such, Francis Bernecker and husband Freddie, Shirley Strickland and husband Doug; sisters-in-law, Patricia Gable and Edith Hussey and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with viewing from 1 to 2 PM before service. Graveside will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
