Private services for Dorothy Ball Ferguson Lester of Thomasville are on March 30, 2017, at Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Filston will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6:00-800 p.m. at the home of Anne and Dudley Lewis, 120 Lake Trace Drive. Mrs. Lester died March 26, 2017 at Camellia Gardens. Born October 9, 1927, in Thomasville, Georgia, she was the daughter of George Lavinder Ferguson and Mr. and Mrs. William Edgar Fry. On December 1, 1951in Thomasville, Georgia, she married James Jackson Lester, Jr. who preceded her in death. She received a B.A. degree in Religious Education from Queens College where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Mrs. Lester served as Director of Religious Education at First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie, Georgia. She taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church and Friendship Presbyterian Church in Thomasville, Georgia, second grade at Pavo Elementary School where she was selected Teacher of the Year in 1990, and second grade at Garrison Pilcher where she retired in 1993. Mrs. Lester was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, served as Circle No. 1 Chairman, served as Co-Chairman of the World Mission Conference with her husband, and received the Women of the Church Honorary Life Membership Award in 1999. She was a former member of the DAR, a sustaining member of Junior Service League, a former member of Thomasville Study Class, Thomasville Landmarks, and Thomas County Historical Society. She was a pink lady at Archbold Memorial Hospital for several years. Survivors include daughters and sons in-law Anne and Dudley Lewis, Thomasville, Georgia, Miriam and Joe Funderburk, Cairo, Georgia, and Dorothy and Mike Johnson, Columbus, Georgia, grandchildren Herbert Lee Stoddard (Felicia), Anne Marie Stoddard Robson (Eric), Allison Stoddard Carter (Joe), Charles Joseph Funderburk, James Graham Johnson, and David Thayer Johnson, one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Maddison Singletary, and three great-grandsons, Sonny Jack Stoddard, William Maddux Stoddard and Joseph Griffin Carter.
