Funeral services for Elwood Deason, 72, of Thomasville will be Wednesday, December 4 at 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dan Spencer and the Rev. Burns Willis will officiate with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jerry Rankin, Roby Rankin, Gary Deason, Wayne Deason, Allen Strickland, Larry Strickland and Rob Deason. Honorary Pallbearers are Hershel Drinkwater, Marion Mobley, Mac McHenry, Ben Force, Jimmy Bennett, Larry Winkelmann, Jimmie Crosby, Derwin Jones, Bill Hopper, Ed Elam, Harry Carver, John Hinson, Bill Bragg, Jack Leiter and Morris Nichols. Mr. Deason died on Saturday, November 30 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Born on October 18, 1930 in Bristol, Fl., he was the son of the late James Lonnie and Beatrice Leigh Rudd Deason. On March 20, 1993, he married Wandell Bozeman Deason, who survives. He retired from the United States Army where he was a Master Sargeant in heavy artillery. Mr. Deason worked for the City of Tallhassee following his retirement from the Army. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Master Mason and a member of the Florida State Seminole Booster Club since 1972.
Other survivors include a daughter, Diane Fields of Tallahassee; son Micheal Deason of Tallahassee; 2 daughters and sons in law, Ronda & Eddie Brookerd, and Deborah and Stout Davis, all of Albany; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Marty & Lynn Richardson of Thomasville and Tony and Cayla Richardson of Atlanta. Also surviving are brothers, Earnest Deason of Havanna, Fl and Robert Winston Deason of Blountstown, Fl; a sister in law Alene Deason of Blounstown; and grandchildren, Kasey Fields, Brandon Fields, April Mayo, Matt Richardson, Whitney Richardson, Christopher Brookerd, Patrick Brookerd, Nicole Richardson, Charlotte Richardson, and T. J. Richardson. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Georgia Chapter, 2625 Cumberland Parkway, Suite 205, Atlanta, Ga. 30339. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 on Tuesday night at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Friends may sign the on-line guest registry at www.allenfh.com .
