Services for Hershell Eric Brown will be held Friday, July 24 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Hershell Brown passed away at home on July 19, 2020. Born May 30, 1929 in Blountsville, Alabama, he was the eleventh child of thirteen. His father was Webster S. Brown and his mother was Mary Blanch Lawrence Brown. Hershell and his family relocated to South Georgia in 1939 where they became farmers. Hershell attended school in Ochlocknee and Meigs. As a senior in Meigs School, he played baseball. His team won the Georgia State Tournament in Leary, GA. He pitched six games in five days and won them all. While in Meigs High School, he met Annie Ruth Peterman. They were married on December 23, 1950. At age 19 he joined the Air Force, retiring after 22 years. While serving in Vietnam, he won four prestigious medals including the Air Force Bronze Star. Hershell was a member of Thomasville Masonic Lodge. He was the Master of the Lodge in 1994 and 2003. He was also a member of the Shriners. He was President of the local Shrine Club twice. After retiring, he worked at the local post office for 18 years. He was an avid golfer and assisted in convincing Thomas County to build the public golf course. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. He is survived by a son and a daughter Bobby Brown and wife Teresa of Thomasville, Sharon Whitehurst and husband William of Crossville, TN; grandchildren Summer Brown, London Brown, Paul and Stacy Dalton, Maria and Paul Filbert, Blake Whitehurst and Clint Whitehurst, and Heather Whitehurst, Crysta Cox, Nathan Cox, Chad Carter and wife Melody.
