She was here to make this world a more beautiful place, Libba Flowers, born on Jan 16, 1951. Raised in Thomasville, GA, where she and her protective poodle, Pierre, and horse, Toots, could be seen frolicking down Blackshear St and beyond. After studying at Presbyterian College and UGA, she had an extensive career as an incredibly talented Interior Designer, and was a wife, mom, social butterfly, actress, and wearer of all the beautiful hats. She was bigger than all the colors, prints, patterns and textures she wove together so perfectly for each of us. She passed away Dec 29, 2021 surrounded by her children.
She was hope exemplified, generosity embodied and kindness with no exceptions. A joy bringer of light and abundance, Libba (Bubba to her grandchildren) wanted us all to be happy, to enjoy our time here, to love one another, and most of all, to feel safe to be exactly who we are every single day. She created a home which served as a safe place to do just that for so many of her nieces, nephews and children’s friends. Stranger to none, friend to all, she was magically influential on everyone with whom she crossed paths. As the third of five children, mother of three, she always did life her way. She chose not to fit “in the box”, it would have kept her from fully spreading her wings and created too much separation between herself, others and possibility. In her company, one believed anything was possible. She was relentlessly supportive of her children and all those she loved. She desired only to be helpful to all who were in need. In honor of that wish, her family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Thomasville’s Halcyon Home. If she knew you, she loved you. Thank you, for helping celebrate her life. Visitation will be held at The Biscuit Company Monday, the 3rd from 5-7pm, and a private memorial service Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son Boyd McKinney of Thomasville; daughters Celeste Bracey (Mose) of Tallahassee, Fl, Cara McKinney (Nathan Lopez) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Rick Bracey, Jason Bracey, Olive Lopez; siblings Peggy Rich (Scott) of Thomasville, Langdon Flowers (Mandy) of Thomasville, Dorothy Swinson (Ron) of Columbia, SC, Jay Flowers (Kim) of Thomasville; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents: Langdon Strong Flowers and Margaret Clisby Powell Flowers.
