Services for Marrs McIntosh Cooper, Jr., 81 of Hahira, formally of Thomasville, will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 8, 2019 at Thomasville First Baptist Church Sanctuary. Pastor Chuck Owens will officiate. The internment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Dr. Cooper passed away March 5, 2019 in Tallahassee. Born January 12, 1938 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Marrs McIntosh Cooper, Sr. and Margaret Jones Cooper. He was married to Sue McCumbers Cooper, who survives. Dr. Cooper graduated from Thomasville High School in 1956 and then attended Emory at Oxford, graduating in 1958. He then attended University of Georgia, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1961, he was accepted into the Education School of Dentistry at Emory. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was stationed in Blythville, Ark from 1966-1968 before returning to Thomasville where he practiced dentistry from 1968 until 2012. While in Thomasville, he was a member of the Thomasville Rotary Club, serving as president 1982-1983 and secretary/treasurer 2000-2004; he was a member of the G.D.A., A.D.A., S.W.D.D.S., Seldum Rest, Compleat Angler Fishing Club, Thomasville Sports Hall of Fame and was a member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta. Other survivors include his son, Stephen F. Cooper and wife Elizabeth George Cooper of Valdosta; daughter, Cheri Cooper Kellam and husband Dr. David Paul Kellam, Jr., of Dublin; grandchildren, Rebekah Sue Cooper, Jane Whalen Cooper, Paul David Kellam, III and William Blackshear Kellam. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Joy Jones Cooper. The family will receive friends, Friday, 9:30 am - 11:00 am, prior to the service.
