Mary Eugenia Mimms

December 20, 1921 — February 5, 2013

Mary Eugenia Mimms died on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Camellia Gardens at the age of 91, from complications of a stroke suffered several months earlier.
Born on December 20, 1921 at Boston, GA, she lived on the family farm surrounded by long-time friends. She lived there until moving to Southern Pines assisted living in Thomasville in 2011. She enjoyed the company of new friends at Southern Pines and was so grateful for the care given her by the staff.
Miss Mimms was the daughter of David Oscar Mimms and Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" Turner Mimms. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings—Marion Elizabeth Mimms Clark Fred, Lola Frank Mimms, Pauline Mimms Harrell Alfonso, David Oscar Mimms, Joshua Turner Mimms Ophelia Walker, William Clayton Mimms, and James Benjamin Mimms.
Survivors include nephews James Frederick Clark Shirley, Frank Mims Clark Irene, Robert Alfonso Harrell Ginny, and William Paul Harrell, niece Mary Clark Fowler Terry and their families. She loved spoiling her nephews and niece when they were children. In later years she enjoyed spending time with them and her extended family of great nephews and nieces and their families and children.
A life-long faithful member of Summerhill Baptist Church, Miss Mimms loved her faith and her church. She held several different positions, including pianist and church clerk. Her friends and church were a big part of her life.
She spent most of her working life first at Dawes Silica Mining Company, then at Simmons, Mills and Simmons CPAs, from which she retired in 1983 or 1984. After retiring, she spent a number of years volunteering with the Archbold Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she made lifelong friends.
By 1983 she had grown tired of living in a drafty old farm house, so she drew from scratch plans for a new home and had it built next door to the old house. The old house was then sold and moved, taking on a new life as a pond house. One of her fondest memories was of visiting the four main Hawaiian islands in 1984. In her later years she greatly enjoyed the company, in succession, of her "children," cats Sunny, Charlie, and Samantha.
This sweet, humble lady will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A graveside service will be held at the Summerhill Baptist Church Cemetery, Boston, GA, on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mitch Clements officiating. In accordance with Miss Mimms' wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation. However, after the funeral the family will receive friends at 122 East Adams Street in Boston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Summerhill Baptist Church or the Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary in Thomasville. Allen and Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
