Mary “Reba” Wade Marshall

May 17, 1920 – October 16, 2019

Mary Reba Wade Marshall of Lynn Haven, Florida, died Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Mary “Reba” Wade Marshall passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the age of 99. She was born in Panama City, FL on May 17, 1920 to Hiram Alonozo “Lonnie” Wade and Eva Velena Pennington Wade. Her family moved to Hopeful, Georgia in 1930, when she was ten years old, and at the age of 15 she returned to live in the Panama City area for the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Harold Marshall; her four brothers, and her three children William Wade Marshall, Anita Marshall and Joseph Wayne Marshall. She is survived by her granddaughters, Holly Marshall Crowley, MD, and her husband Michael A. Crowley, MD, and Leigh Marshall Dow, MBA, and her husband Aaron C. Dow; and her seven great grandchildren. She was a devoted great grandmother to Alex T. Crowley and his wife, Elin Hahn Crowley, Sean M. Crowley, Quinn M. Crowley, Mary-Grace M. Crowley of Thomasville, Georgia, and Darby E. McDaniel, Ashley A. Dow and Jackson B. Dow of Chandler, Arizona.

In 1935, at the age of 15, Reba moved back to Panama City and attended Bay High School. She married Wayne on June 10, 1938 in Camilla, GA. The following year the couple took an idyllic two-week road trip tour of Florida’s east coast from Jacksonville to Key West before Wayne left to serve in the Navy during World War II.

Over their 52 years of marriage, Reba and Wayne built a wonderful life together with their surviving son, Joe, who was a light in their lives. The family joined the First Methodist Church of Panama City. Reba was the Office Manager at the Panama City Coca-Cola Bottling Co. on West 5th Street and worked for the President and General Manager, Henry T. Vickery. She later worked for Henry at VIK Ltd. She was active in several local community organizations, serving in the Bay Medical Auxiliary program and as a Girl Scout Brownie Troop Leader. Reba and her husband, enjoyed fishing on the Brothers River and spending time at their river home in Howard’s Creek, FL.

The Marshall family has a long and storied history in the county and Reba was honored to have her married family name added to the “First Families of Bay County” as one of the county's certified pioneers who were living in the county before it was officially formed April 24, 1913.

Her family has expanded with two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, all of whom were so grateful for her kindness, sense of humor, knowledge and wisdom. She died in Thomasville, GA, close to her granddaughter’s family home. She will be remembered by her family for her love of sewing, knitting, playing a fierce bridge game, cards and board-games with her family and reading and gardening.

A memorial will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. EST at Allen and Allen Funeral Home in Thomasville, Georgia.

Her interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in Panama City, Florida at a later date.
