Services for Thomas Vann Smith Sr. will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel with Pastor Wayne Goff officiating. Final resting place will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Thomas "Tommy" Vann Smith Sr., age 79, passed away on October 3, 2021. He was born on December 3, 1941, in Pavo to the late J.L. and late Nellie Smith. Tommy married his next-door neighbor Vera on July 31, 1964 in Salem Baptist Church and spent 57 years together. He was a farmer for over 60 years for Long Branch Farms. He loved being a farmer and loved the land and watching things grow. He was named Family Farmer of the Year in 2001. Tommy enjoyed hunting fishing and being outdoors; especially dove hunting. He loved listening to country music. First and foremost, Tommy loved God, then his family and his country. He was saved when he was 12 years old at Antioch Baptist Church where he was a member. He was also active at Salem Baptist Church. Tommy is survived by wife Vera; sons Thomas Vann (Denise) Smith Jr. of Thomasville, and Josh Lamar (Kelly) Smith of Pavo; grandchildren Thomas Garrett (Macey) Smith, Natalie Marie Smith, and Makenzie Anne Smith; great-grandchildren Layla Claire Smith, and Thomas Maxwell Smith; special friends and farm partner Tommy W (Shebbie) Bozeman; siblings Janell Hendrix of Lakeland, Fl., Mary S. (Jack) Brown of Boston, Daniel L. (Christine) Smith Sr., of Pavo, and Alan L. (Bonnie) Smith Sr. of Pavo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister Lynda S. Wester. Visitation will be from 10-11am on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund (10307 Salem Rd., Pavo, GA 31778).
