Services for Ada Hemmerle Johnson, 85, of Thomasville will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, September 24, 2012 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomasville. Reverend Marty Carnes will officiate, and interment will be in Andersonville Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Johnson passed away peacefully and with dignity September 19 at Archbold Hospital. Born August 8, 1927, in Seattle, WA, and raised in Liechtenstein as a child, Ada returned to the United States at the age of 12, completing her education and entering the Army Nurse Corps from Hammond, IN. She was the daughter of the late Frank Hemmerle and Josephine K. Hemmerle. She was married to Robert E. Johnson, Sr, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Johnson was a nurse for 40 years, serving as an Army RN, a night charge nurse for Palmyra Medical Center, and a floor nurse for Phoebe Putney Hospital. Retiring in 1988, she continued her service to others as a community volunteer, providing assistance to seniors and as a volunteer for the Lawson Neel Med Bank in Thomasville. Ever adventurous, Mrs. Johnson travelled extensively, visiting all 50 of the United States and dozens of foreign countries. She is survived by her children: Robert E. Johnson, Jr, of Summerville, SC; Frank G. Johnson of Savannah; Jenny J. Johnson of Thomasville; and William R. Johnson of Flimington, NJ. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Christina J. Snuffin, Robert E. Johnson III, Andrew M. Johnson, Jeremy P. Johnson and Katherine M. Gannon, as well as 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her elder daughter, Susan C. Johnson. Donations may be made to the Lawson Neel Med Bank, 1517 E. Clay St, Thomasville, GA 31792.
