A graveside service for Alice "Peggy" Juanita Cordell, 89, of Thomasville will be Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thomasville. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home, 110 West Hansell Street, Thomasville, GA 31792 from 2:00 p.m. until time to depart for the cemetery. Peggy as she was affectionately known, passed into peaceful sleep Thursday, March 15, 2018, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born in Thomasville and was the daughter of the late Fred and Eva Horn Hughes. Her family moved to Ft. Myers, FL where she attended Ft. Myers High School. She later moved back to Thomasville where she met and married her first husband, the late James Capps, Sr. She worked in medical records at Southwestern State Hospital, and was an active member of Thomasville First Baptist Church. Peggy was a care giver, always concerned for others and their needs. She was a past president of the Thomasville Junior Women's Club. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and grouper fishing out of Panacea, FL. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ray Cordell of Thomasville; two sons, Jimmy Capps and Gary Capps, both of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren, Torre Capps, Gary Capps, Jr. and Joseph Capps, all of Tallahassee, FL, Jimmy Capps, Jr. of Wake Forest, NC and Alison Capps of Napa, CA; five great-grandchildren, Colin Ray Harvin, Caden Capps and Kyler Capps, all of Tallahassee, FL and Adelyn Capps and Cohen Capps, both of Wake Forest, NC. Peggy also has a wonderful extended family, step-children, Joe Cordell and his wife, Peggy of Gatlinburg, TN and Melisa Mikels and her husband, Freddie Of Knoxville, TN; and grandchildren, Joey Cordell and his wife, Jessica of Maryville, TN, Melvin Harrell and J.R. of Sevierville, TN, Dustin Mikels of Knoxville, TN and Sabrina McCarter of Seymour, TN. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gerdy Hughes. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services in Cordele and Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
