Services for Alice Ruth Risinger Sons, 91, of Thomasville are 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 16, 2010 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary. The Rev. Tom Jacobs will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are John David Sons, Jr., James Kevin Harley, Dana Ramon Harley, Michael Chad Jordan, Stephen Jason Willis and Tyler Timothy Willis. Mrs. Sons passed away September 13, 2010 at her residence. Born October 27, 1918 in Gilbert, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John William Risinger and Ida Rebecca Alice Shealy Risinger. On May 17, 1937 in Lexington County, SC, she married John Calhoun Sons, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Sons was a 1937 graduate of Gilbert High School and was co-founder of Northside Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC where she served as choir director, Sunday school leader and pianist. The family moved to Thomasville in 1955 from West Columbia, SC, where she was the owner of Ruth's Cloth Shop, a member of First Baptist Church and Joy Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Briarcliff Garden Club, and a former president. She was also a former president of Thomasville Garden Club Inc and former chairman of the Thomasville Garden Center. Survivors include son & daughter-in-law, John David, Sr. and Opal Sons of Perry, Fl; daughters & sons-in-law, Alice Ramona Harley and James Mello of Lexington, SC and Marge Evola and Dr. James T. Willis of Thomasville; grandchildren, Pamela Renee Davis, Teresa Gay Hunter, John David Sons, Jr., James Kevin Harley, Dana Ramon Harley, Wendy Lauren Echerer, Joan Claudine Jordan, Stephen Jason Willis, Tyler Timothy Willis, Angela Brooks, Jawan McGinnis, and Stewart Spencer Sons; 21 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Doris Rae Risinger of West Columbia, SC.; caregivers, Connie, April, Bertha, Vicki, Juanita, Lisa, Hope and Frances. She was preceded in death by a son, James Ray Sons. Memorials may be made to the Thomasville Garden Club Inc, P.O. Box 1273, Thomasville, Ga 31799.
