Allen Payne Higginbotham Jr.

March 11, 1936 — November 16, 2025

Allen Payne Higginbotham Jr. (Buddy), a beloved father, grandfather, and esteemed veterinarian, passed away on November 16, 2025, in his cherished hometown of Thomasville, Georgia. Born on March 11, 1936, in Dixie, GA to the late Allen Payne Higginbotham Sr. and Florrie Womble Higginbotham, Buddy was a lifelong advocate for animals and a dedicated member of his community. A proud graduate of The University of Georgia Veterinarian School, Buddy's passion for veterinary medicine led him to work at Clanton's Veterinary and later with the Department of Agriculture, where he served with honor and commitment. His dedication to the welfare of animals was matched only by his love for the great outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Buddy found joy in fox and duck hunting and spent countless hours in nature, where he sought solace and adventure. He also took great pleasure in shooting skeet, collecting guns and pocket watches, and sharing treasured moments with his beloved dogs and family. Buddy was a devoted member of First Methodist Church, where he fostered lasting friendships and became an integral part of the congregation. His kind heart and warm spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Buddy leaves behind his loving daughters, Suzanne Higginbotham of Thomasville and Kathryn Blaylock (Danny) of Moultrie. His legacy will endure through his grandchildren, Tilden Blaylock, Kelly Blaylock, and honorary grandchild Hamilton Faulk, who will cherish the memories and values he imparted to them. He is preceded in death by wife Joann Williams Higginbotham. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Laurel Hill Cemetery, with Dr. Jimmy Clanton officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Buddy's life and share their fond recollections. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Thomasville Humane Society, or a charity of your choice. Buddy's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him deeply.
