Alma Jones Clements

May 24, 1936 — November 23, 2020

Alma Jones Clements was born to Jody and Frances Renfroe on May 24, 1936 in Quitman, GA. She passed away peacefully at her home on November 23, 2020.

Alma was married to her first husband, Durward Max Jones for 50 years. They adopted two children while living in Atlanta, GA. A son, John Mark, and a daughter, Susan Elizabeth. Durward passed away in 2006.

Alma was then reunited with her high school classmate Joseph F. Clements. They courted for several months, and then were married on August 26, 2007. They never left each other’s side for 13 years. From their lunch dates at Cherokee Park to watch the geese, to going to the Post Office and Dollar General to pick up a few grocery items.

Alma loved to go “riding” in the car. She would ask Joe to take her riding, and he would. She would comment on how blue the sky was, and how green the trees and grass were. She wore a smile from ear to ear all the time. She never met a stranger.

Alma started her Secretarial career in Thomasville, GA and Alexander, Vann, & Lilly Law Firm. From there she and Durward moved to the Greater Atlanta Area, and she worked for another law firm, finally settling in Cornelia, GA for 20 plus years working for attorneys Tom Carter and Joseph A Griggs. Alma and her two children taught swimming lessons in their pool to many children and adults over the years. Alma loved to swim. She was a faithful member of Dawson Street Baptist Church. Eventually, the family would relocate back to Thomasville, GA on October 1, 1990.

Alma then began working as the head Secretary at Southwestern State Hospital in the Clinical Directors Office under Dr. LeRoy and Dale Young, RN. Alma worked for 20 years at SWSH. She retired in 2010.

Survivors are her husband, Jospeh F Clements, son John Mark Jones (wife Stacey), daughter Susan Jones Harnevious, (husband Duane); grandchildren McKenzie E. Hicks (Ryan), James Michael Caulley, III, Evan McClay Caulley, Abagail Leigh Jones, Hannah Katherine Jones, Christopher Aiden Jones, Lauren Hickox (Cody), Virginia Ritter (Matt), Meg Riley Harnevious; great-grandchildren Corbin Liam Schultz, Calliope Grace Hicks, Aleigha Rilynne Jones, Ella Hickox, and Pierce Hickox
