Amelia Studdard

March 24, 1943 — June 8, 2021

Amelia "Amy" Hornsby Studdard passed away at home peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 8, 2021. She was born to Eldridge and Nell Hornsby on March 24, 1943 in Wyandotte, MI. She moved to Seminole County at young age and would eventually earn 4 letters and win 3 undefeated state championships in basketball at Seminole County High School. She attended Valdosta State and earned her degree in Education. After graduation, she followed her calling in the Thomasville / Thomas County school system. While working full-time and raising 2 boys, she earned her Master's degree in Education with straight A's! She retired from teaching after 30 years of changing children's lives, even going to the extreme of learning sign language so she could better communicate with a deaf student in her class. She was always a fighter - a cancer survivor for 25 years - and continued to fight until the end. Although she stopped smoking a little to late to save her, she became an inspiration to many of her friends and family who followed her lead saying "if Amy can quit, so can I!". She loved her family more than life. She was at every game her boys ever played or her husband coached. You always knew she was there as she encouraged her kids (and the referees!). Known as "Mama Studdard", by the boys' high school friends, her home was often the gathering place for food and fun. Amy is survived by Jerry, her best friend and husband of 56 years, sister June, sister-in-law Sadie, sister-in-law Katherine, brother-in-law Foster, sons Jerry (Dana) and Michael (Denise), grandkids Grant (Cortney), Aaron, Ashton, Trent, Carter, Peyton, Brian (Kristin), and Brighton (William), great-grandkids Natalie, Carl, and Lincoln, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled for 5pm-7pm on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home. A memorial service for family only will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Friday, June 11 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Corinth Church, 2543 Ash Crossing Rd, Iron City, GA 39859 or Bethany Hospice and Palliative Care, 2012 E Pinetree Blvd Suite A, Thomasville, GA 31792.
