Amy Parker

October 25, 1941 — October 31, 2022

Amy Hobbs Parker, age 81, a native of Thomasville, Georgia passed away on October 31, 2022, at her residence. A Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 2nd from 5-7 PM in the Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel followed by a graveside service on Thursday, November 3rd at Laurel Hill Cemetery at 2 PM.

She was born in Thomasville, Georgia to Henry Melton Hobbs and Rosa Christine Jordan Hobbs on October 25, 1941. Amy grew up helping on her parent's farm. She said she had a full, happy childhood. Her interest in serving others and education led her into teaching. Amy completed her undergraduate degree at the Georgia State College for Women. She earned a master’s plus 6 from Georgia Southern University.

Mrs. Parker put her education to work as an elementary school teacher in the City and County of Thomasville where she worked for thirty-three years. During her teaching career, she also taught Adult GED classes and even worked as a contemporary Christian radio DJ on the weekends. After Amy retired from teaching, she enjoyed serving as a local Realtor.

Amy lived by faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. She prioritized family and people. Amy loved interacting with others and sharing in their lives, burdens, and joys. She and her husband Jim Parker were active at First United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years.

Amy was a lifelong learner who admired good poetry and literature. She studied Spanish which appealed to her as a rich and beautiful language. Amy maintained a daily Journal and loved early morning devotions, especially Our Daily Bread.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Ron Christian, her brother Melton Hobbs, and her sister Daisy McCorvey.

Amy is survived by her husband Jim Parker, her daughter Jessica and son-in-law Christopher Dell, her sister Lee Duckworth, her grandchildren Noah, Jonah, and Asa Dell, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
