Memorial services for Annette Jones Stewart, 77, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2008, at First Presbyterian church. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Murray will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill cemetery. Mrs. Stewart died Friday, August 15, 2008 at Camellia Gardens. Born January 28, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Elisha and Maggie Fulford Jones. She was married on April 13, 1951 to James Carroll Stewart who preceded her in death on March 6, 1993. She graduated from Thomasville High School and attended Brewton Parker College and the University of Georgia. A historian and writer, she published three books and was historian of the Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women. She wrote a weekly column for the Thomasville Time Enterprise, was News Editor to The Jeff Davis County Ledger in Hazelhurst, Ga., and also wrote for the Atlanta Constitution, the Macon Telegraph and The Savannah Morning News. She had taught kindergarten, served as Assistant Director of the Altamaha Georgia Southern Area Agency on Aging as well as Public Relations Director for the Altamaha Georgia Southern Area Planning and Development Commission. In connection with the Thomas County Mental Health Association, she began Help Line, a telephone counseling and referral service. She was an Elder and formerly Clerk of Session at First Presbyterian Church where she also taught Sunday school, was a circle Bible Moderator and a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women. She has served on various committees of Flint River Presbytery as well as the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Survivors include three children, Becky Stewart Miller of Thomasville, James C. Stewart, Jr. of Naples, Fla., Jeff Stewart of Alpharetta; eight grandchildren, Margaret Jessie Miller and Emily Claire Miller of Thomasville, Judith Oriole Stewart, James Carroll Stewart III, Janelle Sterling Stewart, Jackson Coleman Stewart of Naples, Fla., Anna Kathryn Stewart, William Edward Daly Stewart of Alpharetta; son-in-law, Paul Miller of Thomasville; two daughters-in-law, Susan Storter Stewart of Naples, Fla., Terri Daly Stewart of Alpharetta; brother, Franklin Lewis Jones of Tallahassee, Fla. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Neta Jones Thigpen, Goldie Jones Dixon, Louise Jones Helms, Sara Jones Speigner. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
