Annie Clare Thames Peck died on January 29, 2014, at Camellia Gardens after an extended illness. Born July 10, 1920, at the Randell House in Thomasville, GA., “Anne” was the second of five children of Walter Hendrix and Claude Dunn Thames. She completed schooling at Thomasville High School and graduated from Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA. Anne joined the Woman’s Army Corp (WAC) and was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. She gained the rank of captain and served as company commander. She attended Adjutant General School in Washington, D.C. where she met her future husband. James Henry Peck and Anne were married 18 January 1944 in Oklahoma City, OK. Ann retired from service in 1943. Anne and James Peck made their home in Thomasville, GA after his release from the U.S. Army. Anne was a busy and loving housewife, mother, and daughter, spending much time in the care of her mother, who died January 29, 1970. The Peck family moved to Clarkston, GA, where they lived for over 30 years. They returned to Thomasville when her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The family were members of the First Methodist Church in Thomasville until their move to Clarkston. In addition to her church, Anne enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with her husband. She was avidly devoted to services of the Armed Forces and honored their celebration until her husband’s illness. Anne is preceded in death by her husband of almost sixty years, and by her parents, brothers Walter H. Thames, Jr. of College Station, Texas; James Richard Thames of Atlanta, GA; Claude Dunn Thames of Thomaston, GA and by sisters-in-law Joanne Collins Thames and Dorothy Munden Thames. She is survived by sons James Henry Peck, Jr. and wife Gail of Charlotte, NC and William Thames Peck and wife Sheila and their son Thomas Christopher Peck all of Spring Mills, PA; grandchildren Stephen David Peck and his wife Sherri of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Lyn Marie Peck of Santa Fe, NM. She is also survived by a sister Gladys Thames of Thomasville, GA and by niece Margaret Thames Bitner of Navasota, Texas and Joanne Thames Harrington of Houston, TX and by nephews John Thames of Thomaston, GA and Brian Thames and wife Deborah of Stone Mountain, GA. Also by sister-in-law Ruth Thames of Thomaston and great niece Mary Spranger and husband Philip of Madison, WI and Laura Harrington of Houston, TX and by great-great nephews Nolan and Benjamin of Madison, WI. A Private service will be held on Tuesday, February 04, 2014. Visitation will take place February 03, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
