Arthur Edward Brown, 87, of Orange Heights, Florida, died December 26, 2011, in Thomasville, Georgia. Born December 11, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles Jameson and Emma Elizabeth Brown. On October 21, 1945 he married Betty Lee Tillman who preceded him in death. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and subsequently worked for Sears, Hughes Supply and Publix. He was a Mason and Past Master of the Hawthorne Lodge No. 103 F. & A.M. As a member of Orange Heights Baptist Church, he taught numerous Sunday School classes. His passion for knowledge led him to attend Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. Classes in genealogy, cooking and massage therapy spawned new hobbies. He was an avid square dancer, Gator fan, pursued flying lessons and loved traveling. Most important of all, he was a loving and supportive husband, father and friend. Local survivors include a daughter, Annette Warren Michael of Thomasville, Ga. He is also survived by other children, Linda Balance Chris, Orange Heights, Fl., Debbie Brown, Tallahassee, Fl., and Jeff Brown Janice, Tallahassee, Fl., as well as 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express appreciation to Hospice of Southwest Georgia for their assistance and support. A private graveside service is planned for a later date.
