Services for Aubrey Eugene Thompson Jr, known as "Gene" to his friends, and "Bud" to his family, will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Merrillville Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison Florida at 2:30pm. Mr. Thompson passed away October 26,2023, in Thomasville, GA, with his family by his side. Born April 8,1939 to Gladys Alma Thompson and Tennessee Thompson, in Kissimmee, FL, Gene married Donna Martin (Orlando,FL) in 1964 and they spent 56 years working together to build a legacy. They had 2 children, Bruce (Sheri) and Dana (Brian), and enjoyed grandchildren, Brittani (Tyler), Brandi (Brian), Micaela (Trey), Mackenzie (Hunter) and great grands Brayden, Aubrey, Brynlee and Ward. Other survivors include his sister, Sally Robinson. Gene liked to hunt, fish, scuba dive and play games, and spent many hours in the woods, on a lake or in the ocean making memories with friends and teaching his children and grandchildren to enjoy the same hobbies. He was active in Osceola County, becoming the 2nd Eagle Scout and guiding others to the same achievement. As a volunteer firefighter, he helped keep our community safe. He owned Southside Dental Laboratory from 1968-2004, where he created custom crowns and bridges. He was a member of the National Dental Lab Association, and served as president 2 years. He served on the Osceola County School Board from 1979-1991 during some of the most exponential growth the county had ever seen. A life member of the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show and Fair, he was instrumental in shaping the lives of thousands of youth who participated annually. As an owner of Kissimmee Feed Store, he allowed many kids to put feed on credit until they sold their animal, and could pay the debt. Later in life, he was proud to be a deacon at Merrillville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, his sister, Mary Rocker, and his parents. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 277, Madison, FL 32340, or the Alzheimers Association, act.alz.org.
