A Celebration of Life will be held for Barbara Teate Nunnally at Thomasville First Methodist Church on Saturday, March 23rd at 2:30 pm followed by the family greeting friends in the fellowship hall. Mrs. Nunnally passed away peacefully at Archbold Hospital with her family present on Friday, March 8. Mrs. Nunnally was born and raised in Thomasville and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. Luten Teate.
She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1948 where she was a Bulldog cheerleader, on the PINES yearbook staff, President of The National Honor Society, President of Tri-Hi-Y, member of THS Thespians and Library Clubs, respectively, and was on the court of the 1948 Miss Thomasville Rose Pageant. She attended Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville and in 1950, married her high school sweetheart, Talbot Nunnally, her husband of 61 years and who preceded her in death. Her brother Dr. H. Luten Teate Jr.(Frances) of Atlanta also preceded her in death.
She was very active in the community, loved her church where she was a lifelong member of FUMC, a member of the Lawson Neel Sunday School class, the Alter Guild, the United Methodist Women, and also taught 4-year-old preschool at the church for many years.
She enjoyed volunteering for local organizations including the Archbold Auxiliary, The Lawson Neel Med Bank, The Thomas County Food Bank, and was a long-time active participant in the Thomasville Follies.
She became a realtor and was Office Manager for Nunnally and Associates Realty until her retirement in 1990.
Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and the family enjoyed many memorable years of summer vacations at the Gulf Coast beaches.
She is survived by her 3 children: Paula Nunnally Wright of Chattanooga, TN., Matthew Talbot Nunnally IV (Terri) of Lagrange, GA. and Luten Upchurch Nunnally (Donna) of Thomasville, GA.
5 Grandchildren: Allison Douthat (Ryan) of Midlothian, VA., Cheri Cochran and Ashley Moya of Rock Spring, GA., Parker Nunnally of Scottsdale, AZ. and Connor Nunnally (Laura) of Smyrna, GA.
5 Great grandchildren: Kayleigh and Sydney Douthat, Kyzer Cochran, and Will and Chase Ramsey along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Thomasville First Methodist Church, Vashti, The Thomasville YMCA, or Archbold Hospice.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the many caregivers at Southern Pines, Abide and a number of private caregivers who lent their time, love, and support for Mrs. Nunnally for the last several years.
