Barbara Reid

July 19, 1955 — July 17, 2023

Barbara Reid,67, passed away peacefully at her home in Beachton, GA, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Barbara was born in Greenville, NC, the daughter of Robert (deceased) and Peggy Reid formerly of Sandston, VA. Barbara is survived by her sister Elizabeth "Lissie" Girard (Art) of Mechanicsville, VA and her brother Stephen Reid (Amy) of Kernersville, NC, and their three children, Tyler, Kelly, and Parker Reid, and her stepsons Greg Martin (Tammy) and Kevin Martin (Mitchell). Tom Martin (Pam), passed earlier this year.

Barbara's family will be forever grateful to Arthur Tildon Hankley, Barbara's "sweetheart" as she called him, who was truly the love of her life. Til loved and steadfastly supported Barbara during her five-year cancer journey, bringing her much joy, laughter, and hope. She enjoyed the company of Til's children, Reid Hankley (Margaret) and Bevin Steverson (Jon), and their four children. Their field cocker, Tillie, brought her pure happiness.

Barbara graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in Accounting. She worked for nearly 40 years in the IT industry and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in Atlanta, GA in 2015. She truly enjoyed the many people she worked with over the years, and she always tried to bring out the best in everyone. Barbara loved spending time in Aruba, her "happy place", and traveling all over the Caribbean and the US.

Barbara faced many challenges during her journey and always had the most positive attitude. She would always say, "It is what it is", dust herself off, and continue to fight. The family would like to thank Dr. Mian Shahzad, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL; Dr. Pamela Soliman, MD Anderson in Houston; and Dr. Jay Allard, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Cancer Center for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society ( https://donate.cancer.org/ ) or MD Anderson (MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486 or www.mdanderson.org/gifts ). Services will be private and held at a later date.
