Ben T. Waddill, Jr., known to his family and friends as “Ben T.”, died Sunday afternoon, August 25, 2024, at home in Thomasville, Georgia.
Ben T. was born July 5, 1942, in Tallahassee, Florida, to Ben T. Waddill, Sr. and Elma Waddill. He graduated from Leon High School in 1960, where he served as student body vice president. During high school, he also earned his Eagle Scout. He attended both the University of Florida and Florida State University and graduated from FSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
After graduating from college, Ben T. served his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard, where he served for six years before being honorably discharged.
Ben T. enjoyed a 48-year career as a Certified Public Accountant, serving many clients in the tax and audit fields, continuing in that career until just last year.
Over the years, Ben T. was active in several civic organizations, especially the Exchange Club of Tallahassee, American Red Cross, and Ducks Unlimited.
His hobbies included golf, where he spent time with many friends and family members playing the game that he loved. Over the years, he also enjoyed hunting duck, dove, quail, turkey and elk. He also played racquetball, tennis, and soccer, and he instilled the love of many of those activities in his children and grandchildren.
Ben T. is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Clarise Ivey Waddill, his son Townsend Waddill, III (and wife Lisa) of Fresno, California, his daughter Kathleen Waddill of Niceville, Florida, and his grandsons EMN2(SS) Ben Waddill, IV, United States Navy, and William Waddill of Fresno, California. He is also survived by his brother John Waddill, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben T. and Elma Waddill, Sr., his sister Tricia Smoothwater, and sister-in-law Betty Waddill.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints’ Church (Episcopal), 443 S. Hansell Street, Thomasville, Georgia, and a graveside service will take place at Marvin Chapel cemetery in Graceville, Florida at 11:00 eastern time on Saturday, August 31.
