Benjamin James Wilds Jr., a beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on June 25, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, Benjamin had a life filled with purpose, humor, and love.
Benjamin dedicated his career to the wellbeing of children, providing care with compassion and a genuine servant's heart. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Florida. As a pediatrician, Benjamin was never truly off duty-whether in a store, a restaurant, or simply out in the community, he was always ready to listen to children, offer advice to concerned parents, and share a warm smile; his dedication to caring for others extended far beyond the walls of his clinic. He was deeply passionate about education, always encouraging children to value learning. Whether quizzing them on spelling or math, he took every opportunity to inspire young minds and emphasize the importance of knowledge.
A distinguished veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Benjamin achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After retiring from the military at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia, he settled in Thomasville, where he became a devoted partner at the Pediatric Center. Following his retirement from private practice, Benjamin continued serving the children and families of Thomasville at The Vashti Center. His passion for service extended beyond medicine; he was a lifelong advocate for community involvement and shared his love for God through ministry.
Benjamin's interests were as diverse as his talents. He found joy in fishing, golf, and telling jokes, often lighting up a room with his infectious sense of humor. He found comfort and joy in music, especially the smooth rhythms of soft jazz and the uplifting spirit of gospel. Whether relaxing at home or on the road, these sounds were the soundtrack of his life, reflecting both his soulful nature and his deep appreciation for beauty and faith. An avid reader and a lover of movies, he delighted in word puzzles that challenged his mind, further showcasing his quick wit. His enjoyment of cooking for family, often resulting in cherished meals and laughter. He had a deep passion for travel and photography, finding joy in capturing the beauty of the world and the meaningful moments shared with those he loved-even if he was rarely in the frame himself.
Benjamin is survived by his loving spouse, Doy Wilds; sons, Salim Wilds (Shinako Wilds) and Malis Wilds (Barbara Wilds); daughter, Alisha Wilds; grandchildren Kaleb Wilds, Mikoto Wilds, Mikel Wilds and Wilson Wilds.
