Mrs. Combs died Saturday, February 18, 2017, peacefully, with her family and the wonderful caregivers of Legacy Village and Westcare. Born May 17, 1931 in Grady County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late T.O and Susie Miller. She was preceded in death by her first husband Glen T. (Tommy) Tucker. In November of 1986, she married Harold J. Combs who survives. After years of being a Pastor’s wife in Tallahassee Florida and later at Pine Hill Baptist Church in Reno, Georgia, the couple enjoyed their retirement years in Cairo, Georgia. Known by “Nell” to her friends, Mrs. Combs spent the majority of her life living, working, and raising a family in Thomasville where she was an active member of First Baptist Church. Even when she moved back to her hometown of Cairo during her retirement years, Thomasville held her heart as well as many of her friends and family. Nell never met a stranger wherever life took her. Her warm smile and love of her Lord, Jesus Christ, was evident to all who met her. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law Alan and Erni Tucker of Thomasville, grandson Trent Tucker of Thomasville, grandson Seth Tucker and wife Katie of Thomasville, granddaughter Sara Holt and husband Jeremy of Benton, Louisiana, great granddaughters Leila and Sophie Holt of Benton, Louisiana, Stepsons Jim and Nancy Combs of Dahlonega, Georgia, John and Linda Combs of Gainesville, FL and David and Donda Combs of Tallahassee, Florida. Nell is also survived by a special sister Myrtle Miller Shedd as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other close relatives. Brother Bryan Miller and sister Cleva Mae Kelley preceded her in death. A special thank you and prayers are extended to her adopted “Combs Family” that became a part of her family in 1986 when she married the Reverend Hal Combs. Pops was the Dad and granddaddy that we all needed and he provided unconditional love, laughter, and support. He will always be an integral part of our lives and hearts. During the later stages of her life, Nell was honored with the love and affection of many friends, neighbors and caregivers. Our family would like to acknowledge the special care administered by the staffs of Hospice of Southwest Georgia, Legacy Village, and especially the personal love and care of Westcare and its founder Melissa West of Thomasville. Thank you M.P.W, we will always love you. In honor of Nell, please send donations to: Hospice of Southwest Georgia 114 Mimosa Dr. Thomasville, GA 31792 or Westcare of Thomasville, P.O.
