Heaven’s gates swung wide December 15, 2019 to welcome Bertie L. Cheshire, a little lady with a huge heart of gold, to her Heavenly home. She peacefully slipped away in her sleep, just as she had wanted, in her home in Coolidge, GA where she had lived for the past two years. Born August 12, 1924, in Enterprise, AL she lived most of her life in Florida. She was a kindergarten teacher and a servant of God. She endeavored to be a Christ-like example all her life.
She spent her adult life busy about God’s business. She held virtually every position of laity in the Church of the Nazarene both at the local level and at the district level. She was surely met by a host of souls that she led to Christ during her lifetime.
Per her request, a private burial took place December 17, 2019 and a celebration of a life well lived will be held at Moultrie First Church of the Nazarene, 410 12th Avenue SE, Moultrie, GA where she was a member, on Saturday January 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Paul John Fox, Sr. and Daniel Murdock Cheshire. She was the last surviving member of her birth family. She is survived by her children Dr. Jeanine Cheshire Long (Roy) and Dr. Paul John Fox, Jr (Patti) and as well as 10 grandchildren; Kevin Long (Heather), Benjamin Long (Katie), Gregory Long (Megan), Paul Fox III (JoAnn), Debra Fox, John Fox, Trisha Kelsler (Kelvin), Jared Fox, Jacob Fox, and Joy Fox. She had 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a dear family friend, Kay Barfield.
Not desiring a funeral or flowers after her passing, in lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Moultrie First Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 731, Moultrie, GA 31776. Please designate monetary gifts for the Alabaster Offering, a missions offering close to her heart.
