Services for Bessie Clark Hewell of Thomasville are at 3:00PM on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Dan Spencer and the Rev. Dr. Milton Gardner will officiate and interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery on 12th Street. Pallbearers are George Pete Brookerd, Blake Brookerd, Wes Long, Kevin Long, Howard Floyd and Scott Franklin. Mrs. Hewell died on Thursday night, March 17, 2005 at her residence. Born November 18, 1916 in Thomasville and was a lifelong resident of Thomasville. She was one of 10 children born to William Frank Clark and Addie Bell Clark. Four brother and two sisters preceded her in death. She was married to Paul Allen Franklin on August 18, 1935 in Thomasville. They had three children Carole, Jimmy and Allen. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1976. She was a faithful and lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She was active in the Women?s Missionary Union and taught young girls in Sunday School for a number of years. She loved Jesus Christ and made Him Lord of her life. She witnessed boldly and was deeply concerned for the lost. Next to the Lord and her church, her love for her family was very deep. She had a very special and close relationship with her local sisters and their husbands, Juanita Clark and Rollie Ponder and Ann Clark and George Pete Brookerd. They ministered to each other and visited together several times each week. She was married the Paul Alexander Hewell at the First Baptist Church Chapel on May 13, 1990. She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Hewell and her three children, Paul Allen Franklin, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida, Carole Brautigam and husband, Ad of Tallahassee, Florida, and James William Franklin and wife, Patty of Big Canoe, Georgia; three sisters, Ann Clark Brookerd and husband, George Pete, Frances Clark Bradley and husband, Kenneth of Albany, Georgia, Dorothy Clark Lemstrom of North Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Wes Long and wife, Brenda of Frisco, Texas, Kevin Long and wife, Kate of Tallahassee, Florida and Allen Lon and wife, Carrie of Madeira Beach, Florida, Candice Johns and husband, Chris of Jasper, Georgia, Lindsey Franklin of Big Canoe, Georgia, Scott Franklin, Michael Franklin, Trevor Franklin all of Jacksonville, Florida, eleven great grandchildren and locally nieces and nephews include Jacqueline Varnedoe, Lynn Doughtry, Bill Ponder and Blake Brookerd. There are over 28 out-of-town nieces and nephews plus a host of great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7PM on Saturday.
