Bessie Mae Mitchell Massey

Services for Bessie Mae Mitchell Massey, 87 of Barwick will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Barwick Baptist Church. Rev. David Williams and Rev. Elbert Channel will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Massey passed away August 23 after a brief illness. Born August 8, 1930 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Mitchell and Madie Wilford Mitchell. She was married to R.L. Massey, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Massey worked along side her husband for many years at Massey Hardware Store in Barwick. She enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers, especially Day Lilies. She was an active member of Barwick Baptist Church where she served as secretary for many years and had a special relationship with the young children of the church. Her daughter, granddaughters and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Stephen Barr of Thomasville; grandchildren, Stephanie & Trey Edwards of Thomasville and Jennifer & David Williams of Iron City; great grandchildren, Harper Edwards, Reese Edwards, Davis Williams and Daniel Williams; sisters and brothers, Kathy Anderson of Thomasville, Franklin Mitchell of Crawfordville, Florida and Frances Coker of Boston; niece, Janice Massey Saylor and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brother, William Mitchell. The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
