Betty Jean Herndon

Mrs. Betty Jean Mills Herndon, wife of Paul Randall Herndon, departed her earthly life and entered the gates of Heaven on January 24, 2023, after a long battle with dementia. Betty was born November 4, 1933, in Thomasville, Georgia. She was the daughter of Jesse Wyatt and Louie Mills. She graduated as salutatorian from Pavo High School and attended Valdosta State College and the University of Georgia. She was a member of Cherokee Heights Methodist Church and Forest Hills Church in Macon, where she loved serving in the choir for over 45 years. She worked in the banking industry in Macon, Georgia for 45 years. She loved sewing, walking in her neighborhood, and gardening as a member of the Pine Ridge Garden Club. Her joy and passion, however, was spending time with her family, who she adored. Betty and Randall were married over 70 wonderful years and were blessed with three children.

Betty was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, supportive grandmother, and a warm-hearted friend to many. She embodied kindness, selflessness, and love. Betty was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Wyatt Mills. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Randall, and children; Mills Herndon and his wife, Fran, of Thomasville, Brandt Herndon and his wife, Angel, of Savannah, and Holli Herndon Lee and her husband, David, of Gainesville; seven grandchildren, Katherine Herndon McPhail (Jim), Randy Herndon (Tanner), W. Brandt Herndon, Herndon Lee, Ella Randall Lee, Wyatt Lee, Ava Herndon, and one great grandchild, Charlotte Ann McPhail.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 4 p.m. at Lebanon Cemetery in Pavo, Georgia. Memorials may be made to Forest Hills Church, 1217 Forest Hill Rd., Macon, GA 31210.
