Graveside services for Betty Jo Scoggins Heald, 73 of Cairo will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. Gerald Horne will officiate. Mrs. Heald passed away September 15 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Ga. Born October 18, 1938 in Grady County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jessie Scoggins. In 1979, she married Emory Elton Heald, who survives. For a number of years she worked for Sunnyland Foods in Thomasville. At one time she was a country and western singer. She went to Nashville and made a demo tape. In later years, switched to Southern Gospel, forming two groups, Glory Road singers of Cairo and Whigham and The Light Seekers of Cairo and Boston and was still active until 1999. She was very active in her church in helping form two churches in north Georgia and one in Thomas County. She was a member of Rose City Church of God in Thomasville. Other survivors include sons Ricky Eastham and wife Betty of Greenville, Fl. and Tony Hunter and wife Donna; step-children Glenn Heald and wife Phyllis of Macon, GA., Cynthia Morris and husband Ben of Covington, GA., Gary Heald and wife Dixie of Thomasville, GA., Sharon Holcombe and husband Phillip of Ball Ground, GA.; grandchildren Chris Eastham, Candi Braswell and husband Matt, Chelsea Eastham, Eric Hunter and Alex Hunter; Step-Grandchildren Brandy Snyder and husband Jon, Thomas Heald, Ashley Busby, Zackary Morris, Whitney Holcombe, Josh Heald and wife Stacie and Andy Heald and wife Suzannah. She is also survived by five great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren and sister Geraldine Davis of Chipley, FL and sister-in-law Norma Jean Jones and husband Jack of Thomasville. She was preceded in death by sister Thelma White and brother Buddy Scoggins. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
