Betty Joyce Nelson

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Joyce Nelson, who left this world on January 28, 2025, just shy of her 91st birthday. Betty was born on January 30, 1934, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Dewey and Allie Golden Cochran. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Neil Cone and Ted Nelson.

Betty enjoyed working as a bookkeeper for over 62 years. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in tending to her beautiful flower garden. Betty had a sweet tooth for candy, especially her beloved silver bells. She delighted in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching old westerns and engaging in long telephone conversations, catching up with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Waschak (Mark) of Cohutta, Georgia, and her adoring grandchildren, Mary Catherine Schival of Largo, Florida, and Sam Schival of Cohutta, Georgia. She is preceded in death by the true love of her life, Rodney Banister, her daughter, Martha Cone, her parents, and her siblings, Estelle, Edward, and Patsy.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Boston City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Shepherd Center www.shepherd.org in memory of her daughter, Martha Cone.
