Services for Bobby F. Hendricks, 67, of Thomasville are at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 6, 2007 at Dawson St. Baptist Church. Rev. Clarence Griffiths and Brother Jason Puckett will officiate and internment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Harding, Ramon Herman, Mike Johnson, Chris Hurst, Albert Thomas, Tim Armstrong, Joey Lane and Robert Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will include Dr. Joe Rawlings, Roger Harrison, Kenneth Hatcher, Ben Crawford, and Ken Garrison. Mr. Hendricks died on April 3, 2007 at his residence. Born April 20, 1939, he was the son of the late J. C. & Sarah Fielder Hendricks. He was the founder and owner of Bob & Jeff?s IGA. His first endeavor in grocerying began when he was a seventh grader in Thomasville, delivering merchandise on bicycle and learning to cut meat at the store. Until he was 17, he worked at Stevens Street Grocery with his father. For the next few years, he tried many different jobs such as fireman, insurance salesman, salesman for Singer Sewing Machine and a loan officer. While selling ink used to make grocery signs, he got the grocery itch again, and purchased a store in Perry, Fla from one of his customers. In 1971, he returned his family to Thomasville and built Hendricks?s IGA. In 1979, he left Thomasville again moving to Crystal River, Fla and going into business with his brother Jim. They operated a grocery store and shopping center until 1979, when he returned to Thomasville. Now owner of the Dairy Queen and Louie?s Salad Bowl, he brought his children in to work with him and began to teach them about business. In the early1980?s, the IGA store he had started in Thomasville came up for sale and he bought it. Along with his family, he has been there ever since. Mr. Hendricks is locally famous for the quality of meats that his store sells. He has been involved with many other projects, including the development of the Plantation Plaza. A member of Calvary Fellowship Church, Mr. Hendricks served in the United States Air Force. He was an avid fisherman and supported many churches and charities. On Oct. 8, 1960, he was married to Peggy Sloan Hendricks, who survives. Other survivors include a son & daughter-in-law, Jeff & Haeleon Hendricks; a daughter Katherine Grace Hendricks Mitchell; grandchildren, J. C. Hendricks, Jeffrey Bob Hendricks, Bret Hendricks and Sarah AnnieRose Mitchell all of Thomasville. He is also survived by a brother & sister-in-law Jimmy & Linda Hendricks of Thomasville, and a sisters and brothers-in-law Mary & John Graham of Thomasville and Betty & Tommy Bryant of Attapalgus, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Coleman. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 on Thursday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Guest may sign to online registry at www.allenfh.com
