Calbert Kenneth Cone

Calbert Kenneth Cone, 75 of Thomasville, Ga passed away November 11, 2016 at Archbold Hospital. Born June 10, 1941 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Barney & Cora Lee Wilson Cone. Calbert served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Thule Greenland and Leesburg Georgia Missile Site. He then moved to South Bay, Florida and worked with Benny Richmond Plumbing and Romer Construction. He moved to Crystal River, Florida and started his own company Cal Cone Plumbing. He lived there for many years and was a member and deacon of Red Level Baptist Church and was a member and former President of the Crystal River Lions Club where he enjoyed raising funds for the needs of blind children. He was active with the Florida School for the Blind where his daughter received her education. When he left Crystal River and moved back to Okeechobee, Florida, he worked with Echols Plumbing. He retired as maintenance director of the Eckerd Youth Detention Ranch in Okeechobee. Thanks to all the churches praying for him during this illness and especially to Kennedy Chapel Church and friends he loved so well. He is survived by his children, Stephen Scott Cone and Stephanie G. Strickland, both of Okeechobee, Florida; mother of his children, Gail Cone Lewis of South Bay, Florida; grandsons, Mason Cone and Brennan Cone; granddaughter, Andrea Strickland; sisters, Ocie Mims and Nellie Granquist, both of Pompano Beach, Florida, Norma Daniel of Pavo and Laura Wood of Thomasville; special friends Guy and Ruby Jordan and Doug and Jackie Smith along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by brothers Barney Cone, Jr and William B. Cone who died in infancy. Memorial services are being planned and will be announced at a later date.
