She was the first female mayor of Thomasville, elected in 1994, and served the community with dedication and vision. Following her term, she was re-elected mayor in 2010 and worked diligently to bring numerous companies to town, help with the historic renovation of Greenwood Plantation, and co-create the cherished city rose garden with her friend Marguerite Williams. Her tenure on the city council began in 1987 and was marked by her tireless efforts to improve Thomasville.

In addition to her political work, Camille was passionate about her role as the director of volunteer services at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, where she made a lasting impact on the community. She was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, demonstrating her commitment to service and community development.

Family was at the heart of Camille's life. She is survived by her son, Robert Payne; her daughter, Tara Okon and husband Stan Okon; her brother, Tommy Land; her grandson, John Robert Payne (Kayla), Ashlyn Payne Aaron (Cameron), and John Scott Okon; her great grandson John Charles Payne and her cherished nieces, Rebecca Land Segrest, Amarie Land Warren, Mary Camille Land, and Kathryn McLendon Land. She also embraced her "son" William Andrews. Camille shared a special bond with her loved ones, creating countless memorable moments filled with love and laughter.

She had a lifelong affection for animals, particularly her beloved corgis. She also found joy in riding around Thomasville, enjoying the beautiful sights of her community.
