Carolyn Bennett Betters, 68, mother and friend to many, died on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
Carolyn was born to Vannie Irene and William H. Bennett on April 19, 1956, in Madison, FL. She grew up in Valdosta, GA, and graduated from Valdosta High School in 1974. From a young age, she loved the ocean, spending summers on the beach or at the fish camp run by her father's family in the Florida panhandle. In the early 80s, along with her beloved husband Brian Betters, she lived on the water in the Chesapeake Bay and built sailboats.
Carolyn was a knowledgeable seamstress and a passionate gardener whose green thumb was almost uncanny, growing everything from classic southern blooms to exotic plants. She was adept at the art of sharing a long meal with lively conversation, especially with her dear friend Sugar Blount, and always had a great new story to tell. Her sense of humor, passed down to her from her mother's family, will remain infamous.
For many years, she owned and operated the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Thomasville, GA, where she was known around town for donating food to local organizations and churches. She is remembered fondly as a steadfast fixture in the community, especially by her daughter's friends, and her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to go.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Michelle "Mickey" Betters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Betters; her sister, Gretchen Bennett Powell; and her parents, Vannie Irene (Blalock) and William H. Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Carolyn's honor to performing arts programs at local schools and organizations she supported: Thomasville Community Resource Center and Thomasville Humane Society.
