Carolyn G Mason

September 18, 1948 — September 27, 2016

Carolyn Gail Mason, 68, resident of Whigham, Georgia, passed into heaven on 27 September, 2016 peacefully after a valiant ten year fight with cancer. Carolyn left this earthly plane, as was her wish, in the home that she had shared with her late husband Richard “Dick” Mason.
Carolyn was a graduate of Florence High School in Florence, Colorado. Carolyn’s love of music and especially singing, lead her to pursue a degree in performance vocal music at Southern Colorado State College. While working in an elder care facility, Carolyn discovered a deep satisfaction in helping others overcome their ailments, a trait that would last her lifetime, which lead her to become a physical therapy assistant. She later drove a rural school bus and also worked in quality control for Stanley Tools. Carolyn worked in her late husband Dick’s rental business. Always intrigued with Native American culture, Carolyn and Dick spent several summers attending Native American Pow Wows and tribal gatherings across the United States.
Carolyn loved all animals. In her teens, she rode horses, at any opportunity and showed her calf Candy at the county 4-H show. She had many dog and cat companions over the years and several avian friends. She loved sunrises and sunsets. All were subjects for her hobby of photography. In her later years, she turned her camera’s lens toward roses. These later efforts earned her several blue ribbons in the annual Thomasville Rose Show and Festival Photography Contest. Carolyn was a member of Rainbow for Girls and later Eastern Star where she was the chapter vocalist. Carolyn was a friend to all she met, with a ready smile, kind remark and thoughtful deed for those in need.
Carolyn was married to the love of her life, Richard Rodgers Mason, who has preceded her in death. Carolyn was also predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Elma Shaffer, infant son, Chad, and infant sibling, Donald.
Carolyn is survived by her sister Janie (Gary) Roper and brothers Ronald (Paula) Shaffer and William (Barbara) Shaffer, all of Colorado. She is also survived by a niece, special nephew and extended family.
Contributions to a charity of the giver’s choice may be made in Carolyn’s name. Her family would like to extend a special thanks and blessing to her dear friends Debi, Kitsi, and Rick who helped Carolyn in her final days.
Memorial services will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 216 Remington Ave, Thomasville, GA, 6 October at 3 pm. Arrangements provided by Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
